This section features images of Nuneaton Town, of which Weddington Village was later to become a district, during the time of the Castle. Nuneaton was - and is - the primary town in the vicinity of Weddington and has been highly influential on the development of the village and of the Castle. ** a charming memento of 'The Hippodrome' has recently been acquired by Weddington Castle online. This is a 1938 programme of a production by the Nuneaton Amateur Operatic Society called "Princess Charming". The society boasted Aldermen Edward Melly and Robert Swinnerton as Vice-presidents - both of whom had links to the Castle and grounds. *** the reverse of this postcard gives a brief biography of William Johnson: "Born in the county 1849. A splendid example of what a working lad may do by perseverance & ability, left school at the age of 12 to work in a factory, continued his education in Evening Schools, has taken prizes in Competition with the best Scholars of the Kingdom in several subjects, his public career has been an unbroken success since the early Eighties, is Chairman of Bedworth Council & has filled many positions in Local Politics his strong subject being Education, is a Warwickshire County Councillor, 'Free Churchman,' writes frequently for Newspapers both articles on current topics & essays."
